The Ache, a poem

Just a thought: you can’t live lonely.

Loneliness signals something vital is missing. Understanding, or belonging, or safety, or love.

You can be alone and loved. Alone and safe. Alone often, but accepted always.

But living in lack is not the same as being temporarily alone. Living lonely is feeling yourself slowly disintegrate. It happens in a crowd. During a successful work week. During movie night.

It is an unsolvable problem we work at in early morning and late at night, trying to connect dots, to belong for another day. Probably, it’s being human, this lack… but it aches.

Connection is life. So you can’t live lonely.

The Ache

Under watchful eye
Shifting
In unpreparedness
Speaking
To release the truth
Hoping
Congested thoughts
Hacking
I wheeze a plea
Aching
To be understood
